News Release: Summer Library Reading Program 2024

MILLSBORO, DE – June 1, 2024 – Millsboro Public Library is thrilled to announce the launch of its annual Summer Reading Program, themed “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” This summer, readers of all ages are invited to embark on a thrilling journey filled with books, activities, and events designed to inspire a love of reading and exploration.

“Child literacy is a significant problem in Delaware,” Assistant Director Anthony Connolly said, referring to the latest published by the state. “Our state has dropped considerably in national reading scores, coming in at 37 in the US.” Most agree continued investment in literacy programs is paramount in combating declining literacy rates in the state, he said. “One such investment is a summer reading program at public libraries, like ours,” Connolly offered. “There’s a direct benefit for children who participate.”

Program Highlights:

  • Exciting Learning Challenges: Participants can earn badges and rewards by completing reading challenges and activities. Track your progress online or with our special reading logs available at the library.
  • Interactive Programming: From storytelling sessions and author visits, to craft workshops and science experiments, there’s something for everyone. Check our calendar for a full schedule of events.
  • Fun and Games: Engage in scavenger hunts, trivia nights, and book-themed escape rooms. These games are designed to test your knowledge and creativity while having loads of fun.
