Adventure Awaits: Join Us for the Summer Reading Program at Millsboro Public Library!

Library will host dynamic reading program to prevent “summer slide”

MILLSBORO, DE – June 1, 2024 – Millsboro Public Library is thrilled to announce the launch of its annual Summer Reading Program, themed “Adventure Begins at Your Library.” This summer, readers of all ages are invited to embark on a thrilling journey filled with books, activities, and events designed to inspire a love of reading and exploration.

“Child literacy is a significant problem in Delaware,” Assistant Director Anthony Connolly said, referring to the latest data published by the state. “Our state has dropped considerably in national reading scores, coming in at 37th in the US.” Most agree continued investment in literacy programs is paramount in combating declining literacy rates in the state, he said. “One such investment is a summer reading program at public libraries, like ours,” Connolly offered. “There’s a direct benefit for children who participate.”

Program Highlights:

  • Exciting Learning Challenges: Participants can earn badges and rewards by completing reading challenges and activities. Track your progress online or with our special reading logs available at the library.
  • Interactive Programming: From storytelling sessions and author visits, to craft workshops and science experiments, there’s something for everyone. Check our calendar for a full schedule of events.
  • Fun and Games: Engage in scavenger hunts, trivia nights, and book-themed escape rooms. These games are designed to test your knowledge and creativity while having loads of fun.
  • Grand Prizes: At the end of the program, top readers and participants will be eligible for exciting prizes, including gift cards, books, and other surprises.

“Our theme this year, ‘Adventure Begins at Your Library,’ aims to spark curiosity and encourage lifelong learning through the magic of stories and adventures,” said Assistant Library Director Anthony Connolly. “We’re excited to offer a diverse range of programs that cater to all age groups, ensuring that everyone can find their own adventure at the library this summer.”

The Summer Reading Program kicks off June 1 and runs through August 19. Registration is free and open to all community members. To sign up or learn more about the program, visit our website at or stop by the library.
